As we are still in a “virtual world” for the 2021 Ultra 1k race, we thought it would be fun to showcase some of our favorite local areas. This year we have four race routes to choose from…or you can bring your creativity and create your own!
For anyone who completes all four courses, you’ll be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $250 gift card to the Coach House Restaurant at the New London Inn.
2021 Ultra 1k Routes
Lori’s Ultra 1k – Clark Lookout, New London
If you want to take in some amazing views of Lake Sunapee, you don’t want to miss out on Lori’s Ultra route up to Clark Lookout! Park at the Park-n-ride, cross 103A to Clark Lookout trail head. Start tracking your route at the beginning of the trail.
Insider tip: If you're shooting for the Slowest Verified Ultra 1k prize, this is the route for you! Take some extra time at the summit and enjoy the lake views, they are some of the best in the region! Check out Lori's course map here.
Josh’s Ultra 1k – Wolf Tree Trail, New London
Head over to the Wolf Tree Trail located off of Lakeshore Road in New London. Josh wanted to add some elevation to his course, so this Ultra route begins at the trail head and ends at the summit of the Wolf Tree Trail where you will come to a T intersection with the Webb Forest Trail. Check out Josh's course map here.
If you’re up for exploring a little more (and since you already climbed the hill), take advantage of connecting to the Webb Forest Interpretive Trail! This will loop you all the way back to your starting point. Note the full loop is much longer than a 1k, check out the New London Conservation Commission Trail Map.
Brandy’s Ultra 1k – Sugar River Rail Trail, Newport
Brandy’s route takes you to the scenic Sugar River Rail Trail in Newport, NH. The trail is obviously much longer than 1k so you’ll want to be ready for a flat, fast, out-and-back course. Park at Newport Recreation Center and walk past Irving to the trail head and start tracing your route at the entrance of the rail trail. Right after crossing the wooden bridge, return to your starting point. Park at the Newport Recreation Center at Belknap Ave and walk past Irving to pick up the trail head.
Route variation: you can also get credit for completing this course by starting at the trail head and recording a full 1k going out on the trail (without turning around to the starting point). Check out Brandy's course map here.
Dan and Christina’s Ultra 1k – The Original Course!
The original Ultra racecourse is still available! This loop course starts and finishes at O’Halloran Group, Keller Williams Lakes & Mountains Realty on Main Street in New London. Extra points for a photo finish by the O’Halloran Group sign! Check out Dan and Christina's course map here.
