Located in Merrimack County, Wilmot is a small town of about 1,358 residents.  Both Winslow State Park and a part of Gile State Forest are located within its boundaries.

Wilmot was originally incorporated in 1807 from part of New London.  The town was named after Dr. James Wilmot, who was an English clergyman.
 
Today, the town is comprised of about 29.8 square miles, with 0.2 square miles being water.
