Located in Sullivan County, New Hampshire, Sunapee is a peaceful town with a population of about 3,365 as of the 2010 Census.
Just like Newbury, NH, Lake Sunapee falls partially within Sunapee’s borders. The village of Georges Mills is also located in Sunapee.
Although the town has hadseveral different names over the years, the community finally settled on Sunapee, which comes from the Algonquian Indian word “suna” meaning “goose” and “apee,” meaning “Lake.” The Algonquian’s called the lake Goose Lake because of the prevalence of wild geese there. The town today is comprised of about 25.2 square miles and is quite a tourist attraction for its beautiful lake.
